I had a completely different blog post in mind! I planned on coming on here and telling you all about all the fun and spooky things we did in school today. That is not the case. I have worked at so many places and no matter where I have been, we have celebrated Halloween in some way, shape, or form. Not so much for the staff, but for a safe and fun environment for the children.
Today, we weren’t allowed to have any parties, festivities or even let the scholars dress-up. That was very different for me because I feel like they should be able to enjoy a holiday. Showing your costumes off to you friends while you eat your orange and purple cupcake is like the highlight of elementary school. I felt so bad for the scholars! They spend so much time on education and so little time on fun. I am all for the focus being on education but you don’t want to tear them down so early in their lives!
I’m hoping that next year, I will be able to advocate for more festivities in the classroom. Taking ten minutes at the end of the day to eat a cupcake and talk about what we’re going to be for Halloween is such a simple thing to prepare for and helps to really build morale in between the scholars as well as the staff.
What do you guys think? Are you able to celebrate Halloween at your schools? If so, what do you do to ensure your students are mixing academics with fun?
